Srilankan Airlines is the national carrier of Sri Lanka and was launched in 1979. It was established as Air Lanka following the termination of the original Sri Lankan flag carrier Air Ceylon. In 1998, the airline was rebranded as Srilankan Airlines.
The main operational hub of the airline is the Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo. It is the largest airline in Sri Lanka by the number of aircraft and destinations. The airline flies to 112 destinations in 58 countries. The airline signed an agreement with the Emirates Group in 1998 for a ten-year partnership. In 2008 the Emirates Group sold its stakes to the Government of Sri Lanka.
